London Ontario's Most Underrated Neighbourhoods (And Why They're Starting to Turn Heads)
If you've been keeping an eye on London Ontario real estate for any amount of time, you've probably noticed something: the same neighbourhoods keep coming up. Old South. Byron. Masonville. And don't get me wrong — those areas are popular for a reason.
But some of the most interesting things happening in this city right now? They're not in the usual spots.
I've been working in London real estate for years, and lately I keep getting asked the same question from buyers: "Where are people actually moving that we haven't thought about yet?" So let's talk about it.
Old East Village: The One That's Already Having Its Moment
If you haven't walked down Dundas Street East lately, do it. Like, this weekend.
Old East Village — or OEV if you want to sound like you live there — has gone from overlooked to genuinely cool over the past few years. Independent coffee shops, local breweries, the Western Fair Farmers' Market on Saturdays, murals on every other building. It's got real character that you just can't manufacture.
From a real estate standpoint, it's still one of the more affordable entry points into the city, especially for first-time buyers who want to own something with personality rather than a cookie-cutter build. The homes here are older, full of character — think century homes with original hardwood and actual front porches — and the community vibe is tight-knit in the best way.
The buyers I'm seeing here are younger professionals, artists, people who want walkability and something going on outside their front door. And as more investment has poured into the corridor, values have followed.

Wortley Village: London's "Best Neighbourhood" Isn't a Secret Anymore — But It's Still Worth It
Wortley Village has actually won awards for being one of the best neighbourhoods in Canada, so calling it "underrated" might be a stretch. But I still think a lot of people outside London don't fully appreciate what's here.
It's genuinely walkable. There's a real village feel — local shops, a beloved farmers' market in the summer, tree-lined streets, and homes that were built to last. It's close to downtown without feeling like downtown. And the community events? People here actually show up for each other.
Real estate in Wortley moves fast and holds its value exceptionally well. If you're looking for a home you can grow into — or grow out of and sell well — this is one of the most stable pockets in the city. Inventory is tight, which means when something comes up, you need to be ready to move.

Hamilton Road Corridor: The One to Watch Right Now
Okay, this is the one I want people to pay attention to.
The Hamilton Road area has historically been overlooked, and I'll be honest — some of that reputation has been fair. But that's changing, and it's changing fast. New businesses are opening up. Long-time residents are reinvesting in their properties. The City of London has had this area on its radar for revitalization, and you're starting to see that actually translate into real momentum on the ground.
For investors or buyers who want to get into a neighbourhood before it fully turns, this is the conversation to be having right now. The price points are still accessible, the lots tend to be generous, and the bones of the community are there. I've had more than a few clients who were initially hesitant about this area come back a year later saying it was one of the best decisions they made.
Byron: Not Just for Empty Nesters Anymore
Byron has always had a reputation as a quieter, more established part of London — which it is. But I've noticed a real shift in who is moving there.
Yes, you still have long-time families and retirees who love the greenspace and the slower pace. But I'm also seeing younger families discovering it for the first time, especially people moving to London from Toronto or the GTA who are used to needing a car for everything anyway. Byron gives them the space, the trails, the schools — and prices that make them feel like they've won something.
Boler Mountain is basically in the backyard. The Meadowlily Woods trails are minutes away. If outdoor lifestyle is part of how you want to live, Byron quietly delivers on that in a way that doesn't always get talked about.

So What Does This Mean If You're Looking to Buy?
Here's my honest take: London Ontario is still one of the most undervalued mid-sized cities in the country when you factor in quality of life, job growth (Western University, Fanshawe, the hospital sector), and what your dollar actually gets you compared to the GTA.
But the window on some of these neighbourhoods is closing. The buyers who got into Old East Village five years ago made a smart move. The buyers getting into Hamilton Road right now? I think they're going to be saying the same thing in a few years.
If you're curious about what's available in any of these areas — or you just want to talk through where might make the most sense for your situation — I'm always happy to have that conversation. No pressure, no pitch. Just a chat about the city I work in every day.
